National Consensus Crucial for Accountability: Dr. Ali Riaz

Professor Dr. Ali Riaz, Vice President of the National Consensus Commission, has called on political parties to play a significant role in rebuilding a state based on accountability through structural reforms. He made the remarks on Monday (May 12) morning during his opening statement at a dialogue with the Democratic Left Unity held at LD Hall of the National Parliament building.
Dr. Riaz emphasized that the aspiration to build a democratic state has repeatedly failed over the past 53 years. However, he noted that after the uprising of 2024, there is now a renewed opportunity to realize that goal, and it will require collective efforts from all political forces to succeed.
Leaders of the Democratic Left Unity, in response, expressed their support for reforms and argued that any reform initiative must incorporate a framework for socialism. According to them, socialism remains essential to securing the rights of the working class in the country.
