The central bank of Bangladesh has issued a new directive increasing the allowable limit for overseas medical expenses. From now on, a Bangladeshi citizen can take up to $15,000 USD annually for treatment abroad, up from the previous cap of $10,000. According to the circular issued by the Foreign Exchange Policy Department on May 12, the allocated amount can either be sent directly to foreign hospitals or spent using international prepaid, debit, or credit cards. Of the total, a person can carry a maximum of $5,000 in cash while traveling. Other existing rules remain unchanged. Earlier this month, the central bank also simplified foreign currency remittance processes for education, IT services, visa fees, training, and other expenses via international card platforms, aiming to ease cross-border payments for various sectors.
