BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Zainul Abdin Farroque has stated that the people did not elect this government to hand over the corridor and Chattogram port to foreign powers. Speaking at a discussion event at the National Press Club on Monday (May 19), Farroque said that the responsibility of the corridor doesn’t lie with the current government and such matters should be decided in parliament. He emphasized that the public mandate was not given to allow new actors to organize and take over such national assets. Referring indirectly to the chief advisor, he questioned why the Chattogram port, which could be operated by local expertise, should be handed over to outsiders, suggesting an international conspiracy is underway. He further alleged that some of Hasina’s associates are still hovering around the government and warned that despite having some capable individuals in leadership, trust is being eroded due to their susceptibility to misinformation. Stressing the people’s desire for a fair election, Farroque demanded a clear electoral roadmap, suggesting that delays and reluctance indicate deeper conspiracies, even though the government is fully aware of the public’s expectations.
