A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban against several high-profile individuals, including retired DGFI Director General Lieutenant General (Retd.) Sheikh Mamun Khaled, his wife Nigar Sultana Khaled, Tax Commissioner Abu Sayeed Md. Mustak, and Khandakar Abul Qayyum, the brother-in-law of former NSI Director General Major General T.M. Zobaier. The order was issued by Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court on Thursday, following separate petitions submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the ACC, an investigation is underway against Sheikh Mamun Khaled over allegations of illegal stock trading, abuse of power, financial irregularities, and amassing wealth beyond known sources of income. The agency expressed concerns that he and his family might flee the country, which would hinder the investigation.
In a separate petition, the ACC stated that former NSI chief T.M. Zobaier is under investigation for alleged bribery, abuse of authority in recruitment processes, and accumulation of illicit wealth both domestically and abroad. It also alleged that Abu Sayeed Md. Mustak and Khandakar Abul Qayyum were involved in managing and transferring Zobaier’s unlawfully acquired assets through multiple bank accounts. Authorities believe these individuals also pose a flight risk, prompting the court to impose travel restrictions in the interest of a fair investigation.
