The Advisory Council has expressed satisfaction over the recent meeting in London between Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. On Sunday, June 15, following the Eid holidays, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the Advisor on Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, shared this update after resuming office at the Secretariat.
She noted that most of her holiday was spent working in the field and that the public was able to celebrate Eid peacefully. Emphasizing that national issues should always be resolved through dialogue, she added that the Advisory Council is pleased with the Yunus-Tarique meeting and that if any political party has concerns, they should address them directly with the Chief Advisor.
Social Welfare Advisor Sharmin Morshed, also returning to work, mentioned that the extended Eid-ul-Adha holidays allowed people to enjoy the festival comfortably. She also stated that the government is preparing new initiatives to combat gender-based violence and other social issues, with official announcements expected soon.
Fawzul Kabir Khan, the Advisor for Power, Energy, and Road Transport, reflected that overall the Eid experience was positive, though some transportation challenges were noted. He stressed that unfit vehicles will soon be removed from the roads to improve travel conditions.
Meanwhile, Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar observed that this year’s Eid sacrifice was largely fulfilled using domestically raised cattle. Interestingly, despite the ample livestock supply, there was less demand for expensive cattle, implying that “political sacrifices” were notably fewer this year.
The Advisory Council’s overall sentiment suggested a smooth Eid and a positive outlook on recent political dialogues.
