Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has been presented before the tribunal in connection with the crimes against humanity case related to the incidents of July and August. The hearing is scheduled for Monday (June 16) before a three-member bench led by Tribunal Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mojumdar.
The case also involves former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, whose hearing regarding the formal framing of charges is set to take place on the same day.
Earlier, on June 1, the tribunal officially accepted the charges against Sheikh Hasina, Kamal, and Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun. On that day, arrest warrants were issued against Kamal and Mamun.
According to the prosecution, Sheikh Hasina is allegedly responsible for the killing of 1,400 students and civilians across the country between July 16 and August 5. The prosecution claims that the killings were carried out by law enforcement agencies, members of the Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League under her directives, incitement, and encouragement. They also stated that there is evidence of the use of deadly weapons to suppress protests following her orders.
