Economic Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has suggested that certain business interests may be fueling the ongoing unjustified protest by NBR officials. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (June 25) after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase at the Secretariat, he noted that reforms within the National Board of Revenue (NBR) were undertaken for the greater good and expressed hope that a resolution might be reached following a scheduled meeting with NBR officials on Thursday.

Dr. Ahmed emphasized that political stability is essential for maintaining economic stability, noting that favorable political conditions have led international lenders to ease loan conditions. While acknowledging a slowdown in foreign investment, he asserted that the country’s overall economic health remains sound. He also stated that ongoing instability in the Middle East has not yet impacted Bangladesh’s economy, with imports, including oil, continuing at previous price levels.
