DMP Says Strict Security in Place for Tazia Procession

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Acting Commissioner Md. Sarwar announced enhanced security measures for the upcoming Tazia procession, stating that special police forces will be deployed at the front, middle, and rear of the procession. Speaking to the press after visiting the Hoseni Dalan in Old Dhaka on Thursday morning, he said that all Shia religious establishments in Dhaka are under security coverage, with increased area-based checkpoints in place.

 

He further mentioned that dog squads are being used for security sweeps, and social media platforms are being actively monitored. Surveillance is also ongoing on militant and banned groups to prevent any threats.

 

The DMP has also instructed the removal of makeshift shops along the procession route and banned the use of firecrackers, fireworks, metal objects, flammable substances, and knives during the event. Additional Commissioner (Crime) Nazrul Islam added that there are no significant threats to the Ashura procession and that adequate measures have been taken to ensure safety.
