Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated that the individuals recently deported from Malaysia are not militants. He clarified that they were sent back solely because their visas had expired. Speaking to reporters on Sunday (July 6) after inspecting the Export Cargo Village at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, he said no official communication has yet been received from the Malaysian government regarding claims made by Malaysian police, but efforts are being made to establish contact.
In response to a journalist’s question, the adviser asserted that there are no militant groups currently active in Bangladesh. “With your help, militancy has been eradicated. You deserve the most credit. In the past 10 months, have you been able to provide any information on militants? You haven’t—because there are none. Previously there were, and you provided information then,” he said.
He also addressed recent disruptions at the cargo village caused by protests from National Board of Revenue officials, explaining that the visit aimed to assess the extent of the disruption and whether operations had resumed. Additionally, he noted that due to a rise in agricultural exports, plans are in place to expand cold storage facilities at the airport.
