Ex-Janata Bank Chairman arrested in ACC case

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Dr. Abul Barkat, former chairman of Janata Bank, in connection with a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). He was detained late Thursday night, July 10, from the Dhanmondi area of the capital. The arrest was confirmed by Mohammad Nasirul Islam, Joint Commissioner of DB (South), who stated that the action was taken following a requisition from the ACC. Dr. Barkat is expected to be handed over to the commission on Friday, July 11, with legal proceedings underway against him.
