Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, has stated that despite the ban on political activities, armed groups appear to have entrenched themselves in Gopalganj. She emphasized that no form of terrorist activity—regardless of the party targeted—will be tolerated.

Speaking at Saidpur Airport in Nilphamari on Wednesday (July 16) around 5:30 PM, while en route to Dhaka from Rangpur, she responded to questions from local members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizen Party (NCP). Rizwana Hasan condemned the recent attack on NCP activists, calling it unacceptable and assured that immediate action would be taken. She noted that the Chief Advisor had also condemned the incident and instructed both police and military forces to act firmly.

She reiterated that terrorist actions against any party—not just the NCP—are intolerable. Reflecting on the post-uprising period, she said the feared deterioration in law and order had not occurred and that, overall, the country remained stable. While the NCP has been active in several districts, no such violent incident had happened elsewhere.

Rizwana further warned that those responsible for the attack will be brought to justice. She also pointed out that in the past, the Awami League attempted to destabilize Gopalganj by obstructing military operations. According to her, remnants of the Awami League still hold influence within the administration, and terrorist elements have taken root in Gopalganj. She confirmed that actions have been taken against them and that legal proceedings are already underway.

Regarding the July Charter, she noted that it is crucial for the current transitional phase. Although the document is political in nature, broad consultations have been held with different parties to finalize its draft. She assured that efforts are ongoing to complete the process as quickly as possible.
