Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has expressed his gratitude to Nobel Laureate and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus for his compassion following a recent health scare during a mass rally.

In a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Sunday (July 20), Dr. Shafiqur Rahman wrote that after he fell ill on stage at Suhrawardy Udyan the previous day, Prof. Yunus inquired about his health and even sent his press secretary to the hospital for updates.

“I sincerely thank him for his thoughtful gesture. Such compassion will be remembered,” the Jamaat chief stated, adding a prayer for Prof. Yunus: “May Allah reward him abundantly. Ameen.”

During Saturday’s mass gathering organized by Jamaat-e-Islami in Suhrawardy Udyan, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman collapsed on stage twice while delivering his speech. He was later taken to Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhanmondi for medical evaluation.

Leaders from the opposition party BNP, led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, visited him at the hospital. After the visit, Mirza Fakhrul remarked that Dr. Rahman’s well-being is crucial in the current political context.

Prof. Yunus’ press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, also visited the hospital and conveyed the adviser’s wishes for good health to all political leaders ahead of the upcoming election.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was discharged from the hospital around 9 PM after nearly three hours of treatment. Speaking to reporters, he expressed regret for not being able to finish his speech and stressed that meaningful reforms are not possible without eliminating corruption.

He also thanked well-wishers from both home and abroad who expressed concern for his health.
