Mohammad Lal Chan, a resident of Kalupur village under Narayanpur Union in Chapainawabganj, has gone missing after reportedly entering India illegally through the border in an attempt to bring back cattle.
According to local sources, the incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday night (July 19), when Lal Chan and several others crossed the Narayanpur border in Sadar upazila. While the others managed to return, Lal Chan has not been seen since, and no contact has been made with him.
Rumors of his death began circulating in the area on Sunday morning, though no confirmation has been made by authorities or witnesses.
Lieutenant Colonel Fahad Mahmud Rinku, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-53 in Chapainawabganj, confirmed that BGB was informed by local residents about the incident. He said efforts are underway to communicate with India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to determine Lal Chan’s whereabouts.
“So far, we have not received any concrete information regarding his fate. Our patrol unit did not hear any gunfire along the Narayanpur border last night, which suggests the rumors of his death may not be accurate,” he added.
Authorities continue to investigate the matter while the family remains anxiously awaiting any news about Lal Chan.
