Despite ideological differences and political competition, there is a growing need for unity among parties to counter rising signs of fascism, said Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
He made the remarks on Wednesday (July 23) during a meeting with representatives from 13 political parties and alliances at the state guesthouse Jamuna.
Dr. Yunus noted, “As we mark one year since the July uprising, we had intended to bring all political parties together to reflect on the past and stand united. Our programs were designed to showcase that unity against fascist tendencies. Unfortunately, before the year’s end, we are witnessing signs of renewed conspiracies from defeated forces.”
He emphasized that while disagreements and rivalries may exist, the opposition to fascism must appear more consolidated: “The lack of visible unity is being seen as an opportunity by those trying to revive authoritarianism.”
All parties present at the meeting reportedly reaffirmed their commitment to defending democracy and maintaining political and civil unity. They urged the Chief Advisor to take firmer measures to ensure law and order across the country.
