Milestone School and College, located in Uttara, Dhaka, is set to reopen today, Sunday (August 3), after nearly two weeks of closure. However, regular academic activities will not resume immediately. Students from grades 9 to 12 are invited to visit the campus to reconnect with their teachers and friends in a casual setting.
The institution’s spokesperson, Shah Bulbul, confirmed the development to the media on Saturday (August 2).
He stated, “Since the tragic aircraft crash on July 21, the entire campus has been engulfed in grief. At this moment, the primary focus of the administration is the emotional well-being of the students.”
Bulbul further added that reopening the campus on a limited scale is aimed at helping students gradually return to normalcy. “We believe allowing students to interact with teachers and spend time with peers can be a meaningful step toward emotional healing.”
He also mentioned that special prayer gatherings (duas) will continue on campus, similar to the one held on Saturday. Additionally, a medical support camp—run with assistance from the Bangladesh Air Force—is in operation to provide both physical and psychological health consultations to affected students.
On July 21, a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into the Milestone School and College building, resulting in a devastating fire. Initially, 20 people, most of them children, lost their lives, and the death toll later rose to 34, including the pilot, Toukir Islam.
Following the tragedy, the college authorities announced multiple closures, the latest extending up to August 2. During the closure, administrative operations continued, and a control room was established to aid injured students and coordinate relief efforts.
