President Mohammed Shahabuddin has urged the nation to root out fascism in all forms to honor the true vision of the July Uprising and to move toward a just, inclusive, and prosperous Bangladesh.
In a statement issued Monday by the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser’s Office, the president reflected on the significance of the July movement, describing it as a turning point that opened the door for wide-ranging reforms driven by public demand. “The uprising paved the way for meaningful democratic transformation. We are now entering a new chapter in state-building—one grounded in fairness and equality,” he said.
President Shahabuddin highlighted the July Uprising as a collective response to long-standing injustices—including authoritarianism, corruption, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and suppression of voting rights. He described it as “an expression of people’s rage against systemic denial and repression.”
He paid solemn tribute to those who lost their lives in the movement. “I bow in respect to the martyrs who gave everything in the struggle against tyranny. I also remember those who were injured, maimed, or blinded during the resistance. It is the moral obligation of the state to ensure justice for them and their families—and we remain committed to that goal.”
Marking the anniversary, the president congratulated the youth, students, workers, and ordinary citizens whose collective efforts brought about the downfall of a repressive regime on this day in 2024. He praised their unwavering unity and resolve in reclaiming democracy and civil rights for the nation.
