A plot to attack five journalists in Feni, similar to the violent incident in Gazipur, has been exposed against the banned student organization Chhatra League. Intelligence sources have uncovered evidence of the plan through a WhatsApp group named ‘Ektai Shokti’, coordinated by district-level Chhatra League and Jubo League leaders and activists.

On the night of August 9, Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, a correspondent for Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and editor of Feni Somoy daily, filed a General Diary (GD) complaint at Feni Model Police Station. The Officer-in-Charge, Mohammad Samsuzzaman, confirmed the matter.

  • Zahidul Alam Rajon (Reporter, NTV Online)

The GD states that members of the ‘Ektai Shokti’ WhatsApp group planned to carry out “sudden attacks” or torch the homes of these journalists under the cover of night, mirroring the Gazipur incident.

“The revelation of this plot has caused anxiety among journalists. The perpetrators must be brought to justice swiftly.”

SuJan Feni district joint general secretary Morshed Hossain and Journalist Union Feni general secretary Mizanur Rahman also condemned the conspiracy and demanded prompt arrests.

Police Response

Feni Model Police Station OC said:

“We were already aware of this plan through intelligence operations. We are taking steps to ensure the safety of the concerned journalists. Verified information from cyber cells will be used to take legal action.”
