Nationwide Typhoid Vaccination Campaign for Children Postponed to October
Authorities have announced a new schedule for the nationwide typhoid vaccination campaign targeting children and adolescents, citing delays in preparation due to a recent strike by health assistants.
Originally planned to begin on September 1, the campaign will now start on October 12 and continue for 18 working days, according to health officials.
“The strike by health assistants caused delays in readiness, which led us to set a new start date. The campaign will run for 10 days in schools, followed by eight days at vaccination centers. All other arrangements remain the same,” said Abul Fazal Md Shahabuddin Khan, Manager of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI).
Under the program, approximately 50 million children and adolescents under the age of 15 will receive the vaccine free of charge. The campaign will be carried out in two phases: school-based vaccination first, followed by sessions at EPI centers for those who missed the initial round.
The typhoid vaccine will be given as a single-dose injection, providing protection for three to seven years. Online registration for the vaccination opened on August 1.
