Dengue claims six more lives, 586 admitted in a day

Six more people have died of dengue in Bangladesh in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday morning, bringing the official death toll from the disease this year to 145, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the latest fatalities, three occurred in areas under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), one under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and one each in Mymensingh and Rajshahi divisions.
During the same period, 586 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country with dengue symptoms, pushing the total number of reported cases since January to 36,682.
DGHS data shows the new infections were distributed as follows: 109 in Barishal Division (outside city corporations), 58 in Chattogram Division (outside CC), 104 in Dhaka Division (outside CC), 144 in Dhaka North City Corporation (the highest for the day), 103 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 12 in Mymensingh (outside CC), 44 in Rajshahi Division (outside CC), 10 in Rangpur (outside CC), and 2 in Khulna Division (outside CC).
Currently, 746 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at hospitals nationwide.
The DGHS report further noted that 55.2 percent of this year’s patients have been male, while 44.8 percent have been female. From January 1 to September 11 alone, 36,682 dengue cases have been confirmed — with men making up 60.1 percent and women 39.9 percent of the total.
By comparison, in 2023 dengue caused 575 deaths across Bangladesh. That year, DGHS documented 101,214 cases in total, of which 100,040 patients recovered.
