Extradition of Sheikh Hasina Hinges on New Delhi: Adviser

Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain has stated that Bangladesh will continue its diplomatic efforts to bring back convicted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from India. However, her extradition ultimately depends on New Delhi’s decision.
Responding to journalists’ questions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, Touhid Hossain said, “We will continue trying to convince India to send Sheikh Hasina back to Dhaka.”
Regarding reports of Sheikh Hasina’s possible relocation to a third country, the Foreign Affairs Adviser said he has not received any information through diplomatic channels and has only seen such reports in the media.
Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5, 2024, following her removal from power. She was later convicted by Bangladeshi courts in multiple cases related to corruption and abuse of power.
In July of last year, the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan to death on November 17 this year for crimes against humanity in connection with a murder case. Following this, Bangladesh sent its first formal request to India for her extradition.
