Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, the Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs, has assured that a joint force will take immediate action following an attack on a police camp in Gozaria, Munshiganj. He made the statement during the inauguration of the Shubhaddhya Canal Re-excavation Project in Keraniganj on Tuesday morning (August 26).

The incident occurred on Monday (August 25), when a group of river pirates opened fire on patrolling police officers at a temporary camp in Munshiganj. The police returned fire in self-defense, and the exchange of gunfire lasted nearly 30 minutes. No arrests have been made so far.

Speaking to reporters, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that authorities will swiftly respond to the attack using a joint force. He also warned that encroachers in the Shubhaddhya Canal area would not be spared. “The number of land pirates in this area is high. Everyone must work together to prevent illegal occupation. Local resistance must be strengthened against canal polluters and encroachers,” he added.

At the same event, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, said measures will be taken to prevent the canal banks from being illegally occupied, including constructing protective embankments where necessary.
