Schedule and Arrival
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to arrive in Dhaka at around 12:00 noon on Thursday. The Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying him and his family is scheduled to depart London at approximately 6:15 pm Bangladesh time on Wednesday and reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport the following day.
Upon arrival, senior leaders and policymakers of the BNP will formally receive him at the airport.
Receptions and Movement
After the airport reception, Tarique Rahman is set to travel by road to Purbachal’s 300 Feet Road, where the party is arranging a larger public reception. According to party sources, BNP leaders and activists are expected to stand along both sides of the route to welcome him. He is also likely to address supporters at the event.
Following the reception, he will visit Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara to see his mother, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is currently undergoing treatment. Later, he is expected to proceed to his residence, Feroza, in Gulshan, Dhaka.
Upcoming Plans
Subject to security arrangements, Tarique Rahman may visit his father’s grave on December 26. He is also expected to travel to Bogura afterward to submit his nomination papers for the 13th parliamentary election, where he plans to contest from the Bogura-6 constituency.
Party Preparations
BNP leaders estimate that around five million party members and supporters may gather in Dhaka to mark the occasion. Special arrangements are reportedly being made to transport supporters from different parts of the country to the capital.
Traffic and Security Updates
As of noon on December 24, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police had not issued any official advisory or instructions regarding traffic diversions.
To prevent congestion, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport authorities have restricted entry to ticket-holding passengers only for a 24-hour period, starting from 6:00 pm on December 24 until 6:00 pm on December 25.
In addition, Bangladesh Railway will operate 10 special trains to facilitate the movement of BNP supporters to Dhaka. These services are expected to generate revenue of approximately Tk 36 lakh.
