Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha, has passed away while undergoing treatment in Singapore (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un).

A senior official of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who was involved in overseeing his medical care in Singapore, confirmed the death to the media around 10:00 pm on Thursday. The Inqilab Mancha also announced the news through its official Facebook page.

Just a day earlier, the Chief Adviser’s press wing had said that Hadi’s condition was extremely critical after he was shot. Following that update, concerns over his health intensified, with many people expressing their fears on social media.

Sharif Osman Hadi was shot last Friday afternoon while riding in a rickshaw in the Box Culvert area of Bijoynagar in the capital. He was a prospective independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency and had been actively campaigning ahead of the election.

After being shot in the head, Hadi was rushed in critical condition to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital. On Monday afternoon, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced treatment, accompanied by his brother as well as Bangladeshi doctors and nurses.

Law enforcement agencies have identified Faisal Karim Masud as the main shooter. According to police and RAB, his associate Alamgir Sheikh was riding the motorcycle used in the attack. Investigators say both suspects fled to India after illegally crossing the border.

So far, police and RAB have detained or arrested 14 people in connection with the attack. Among them are Faisal’s parents—Md Humayun Kabir (70) and Mosa Hasi Begum (60)—his wife Saheda Parvin Samia, and his brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Sipu. Others arrested include Md Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Ujjal, Md Kabir, Abdul Hannan, Md Hiron, Md Razzak, Faisal’s girlfriend Maria Akter, and two suspected human traffickers, Simiron Dio and Sanjay Chisim, who are believed to be active along the Haluaghat border.
