BNP Backing and Personal Appeal Boost Jamaat Candidate in Comilla-11
Comilla, February 2, 2026 — Jamaat’s vice leader Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher addressed a major election rally at South Sripur Eidgah ground in Comilla’s Chauddagram upazila on Monday afternoon, highlighting strong local support ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
From the moment he stepped into Chauddagram town, the buzz around the election was palpable. Tea stalls, rickshaw stands, and local markets were abuzz with discussions about the candidates of Comilla-11 (Chauddagram). Voters expressed that while party affiliation matters, the personal reputation and past performance of candidates are now decisive factors.
Abdullah Mohammad Taher, running as the candidate of an 11-party alliance, is considered a heavyweight in the constituency due to his long-standing political experience. His campaign team is actively engaging with voters across villages, while Taher himself is attending rallies and local meetings.
BNP’s nominated candidate, Kamrul Huda, also remains active in the field. Huda, president of Chauddagram BNP and senior joint secretary of Comilla South district, is contesting his first national election, while Taher has previously served as an MP in 2001 under the BNP-Jamaat alliance.
Speaking to the press, Taher expressed confidence in his widespread personal support: “I have immense faith in the people of Chauddagram, and they reciprocate that trust. Even beyond party lines, many individuals support me for my past work maintaining peace and development here.”
He added that a significant portion of BNP supporters, as well as voters from other parties, are backing him based on his personal record rather than party loyalty. He highlighted strong female voter engagement, with 80–90% of women reportedly supporting him, as evident from local women’s gatherings.
At the rally, Taher framed the election as more than a vote for an MP, calling it a chance to change Bangladesh’s political future. He promised that if the 11-party alliance comes to power, corruption will be curbed and leaders who truly represent the people will be elected.
Local Jamaat leaders noted that Taher’s popularity extends beyond party boundaries, with voters appreciating his past achievements, integrity, and personal character. They expressed confidence that his personal appeal would play a decisive role in the upcoming election.
