BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has emphasized the critical importance of the upcoming election, saying, “After so many sacrifices and struggles, the election we have now should be treated with utmost seriousness. If we make the right decisions in this election, we can lead Bangladesh toward peace and stability for the next five years. But if we fail to take the correct decisions, we will fall into trouble again.”

He made these remarks on Tuesday at around 11:30 a.m. during an election rally in Ward No. 6 of Thakurgaon Municipality.

The rally, held at the City Community Centre, was organized by Thakurgaon Municipal BNP in support of Mirza Fakhrul, the BNP candidate for Thakurgaon-1 (Sadar) constituency.

Addressing alleged attempts to mislead voters, Fakhrul said, “People are being manipulated through religion, and false propaganda is being spread. This could lead to mistakes in our overall decision-making.”

Reflecting on the nation’s history, he added, “We must know our roots. In 1971, we fought a war of independence. That war is our existence—it gave us a new country, a territory, and countless opportunities to survive, move forward, and provide a bright future for our children. 1971 is our foundation, our essence, and we must move forward with it.”

Fakhrul also criticized groups trying to undermine the significance of 1971, warning that dismissing the independence struggle is equivalent to denying the nation’s very existence. “We are uncompromising on the questions of the 1971 Liberation War, democracy, development, and secularism. These are our core principles, and we will advance with them,” he said.
