BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on India to respect Bangladesh’s sovereignty and democratic values. Speaking as the chief guest at a conference at Royal Regency Hall in East London on December 3, Mirza Fakhrul expressed concern over the spread of what he termed false and misleading information regarding minority persecution in Bangladesh, describing it as a threat to the country’s sovereignty.

Addressing recent protests outside Bangladesh’s Assistant High Commission in Agartala, India, and an attack on the commission, Fakhrul condemned such actions and urged India to act as a respectful neighbor. While acknowledging India’s historic role in Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971, he emphasized that Bangladeshis fought for their independence and democracy with great sacrifice and will not tolerate any form of disrespect or dominance.

Fakhrul also criticized Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, alleging her complicity in human rights violations, including the killing of 20,000 people over 15 years and the enforced disappearance of hundreds. He accused India of supporting Hasina and claimed she is involved in conspiracies against the Bangladeshi people from India.

Calling for national unity, Fakhrul urged all political parties to remain united in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and independence. He further appealed to the interim government to expedite electoral reforms and administrative changes to pave the way for timely elections, warning that delays would only strengthen anti-democratic forces.

The event, presided over by UK BNP President MA Malek and conducted by General Secretary Kaiser M Ahmed, saw participation from thousands of BNP leaders and activists from across the UK and Europe. Several party leaders also addressed the rally, reaffirming their commitment to preserving democracy and sovereignty.
