BNP to Hold Diplomatic Meeting with UN Chief Today

The BNP is set to meet with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres during his visit to Bangladesh. The meeting is scheduled for Saturday at 1 PM at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka. BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the information on Friday, stating that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other party representatives will attend the discussion.

 

António Guterres arrived in Bangladesh on a four-day visit at the invitation of Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus. He landed in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon and met with Dr. Yunus at his office on Friday morning. Following their meeting, both traveled to Cox’s Bazar to visit the Rohingya refugee camps.

 

Before meeting the BNP delegation, Guterres held talks with Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser, discussing the country’s ongoing reforms and political developments. He expressed gratitude for Bangladesh’s close cooperation with the UN and its generosity toward Rohingya refugees. He also acknowledged Bangladesh’s strong commitment to UN peacekeeping missions.

 

After the meeting with the Foreign Affairs Adviser, Chief Adviser’s High Representative on Rohingya Affairs, Khalilur Rahman, also met with Guterres at the same venue. Their discussion focused on the Rohingya crisis, the situation in Rakhine State, and an upcoming high-level conference regarding Myanmar’s treatment of Rohingya and other minority groups.
