Speculations are rife regarding the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who is expected to come back to Bangladesh as early as February next year. Party insiders have revealed that comprehensive preparations are underway, including assessing the security situation and arranging a residence. Reports suggest a delegation from the UK has already reviewed security measures in Dhaka. Meanwhile, BNP leaders, including Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, have engaged with Rahman in the UK to discuss the political roadmap. Efforts are also being made to address the 24 pending legal cases and four convictions against him, which BNP claims are politically motivated. Tarique Rahman, who left Bangladesh in 2008 for medical treatment following his arrest in 2007, has been leading the party from London since 2018, after his mother Khaleda Zia was jailed. His anticipated return has energized party supporters and intensified political discourse ahead of the next general election, although the exact timeline remains uncertain.
