BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that although Sheikh Hasina fled the country following the student movement, she has not abandoned what he called her “destructive politics.”

He made the remarks on Tuesday (2 September) at a gathering in Uttara, Dhaka, ahead of a voluntary canal-cleaning program organized by BNP.

Calling on party activists to uphold the ideals of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, Fakhrul said, “BNP must not turn into a sycophantic party like the Awami League. If that happens, people will not stand with us.”

He further stated that there can be no compromise on the nation’s independence and sovereignty: “We will defend it even with the last drop of our blood.”

According to him, Sheikh Hasina, now in India, is allegedly encouraging Awami League and its student wing to create unrest. “From across the border she is instigating chaos—telling them to march, clash, and attack opposition leaders,” Fakhrul claimed. He urged BNP members to resist any such aggression firmly.

Speaking about national politics, Fakhrul mentioned that Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus has no political ambitions but is working to restore peace in the country. He said BNP is determined to establish a balance of power in the coming days, unlike the past when, he argued, Hasina concentrated everything in her hands.

He assured that BNP respects the rule of law and pledged that, under a BNP government, the media would enjoy full freedom.

Addressing student leaders, he instructed them not to instigate trouble during student union elections or elsewhere. He also called on the police to act responsibly, leaving behind their controversial past role.

Finally, Fakhrul urged everyone to remain united against misinformation and propaganda spreading on social media.
