Chief Adviser Pays Tribute to the Memory of Manmohan Singh at Indian High Commission

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government, paid tribute to the late Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday, December 31, at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka. According to the Chief Adviser’s press wing, Dr. Yunus laid a floral wreath before the portrait of the late leader and signed a condolence book at the High Commission.

 

Earlier in the day, Indian High Commissioner Pranay Kumar Verma welcomed Dr. Yunus to the Baridhara premises at 11:30 AM. During the visit, Dr. Yunus fondly recalled his long-standing friendship with Manmohan Singh, describing him as a simple yet exceptionally wise leader who played a pivotal role in transforming India into a global economic powerhouse.

 

Manmohan Singh passed away last Thursday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi at the age of 92. A distinguished leader, he served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 under the Congress-led coalition government. From August 2019 to April 2024, Singh was also a member of the Rajya Sabha.

 

Born on September 26, 1932, in Chakwal district (now in Pakistan), Singh’s passing is being marked by a seven-day mourning period in India.
