EC Ready for Early-February National Polls and Referendum

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has briefed Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on the Election Commission’s preparations for the upcoming national election and the planned referendum. He affirmed that all arrangements are progressing smoothly and that the Commission is fully ready to hold both the national polls and the referendum in the first half of February.
The briefing took place on Sunday evening at the state guesthouse Jamuna, where the CEC and other election commissioners met the Chief Adviser and presented updates on election preparations. The Chief Adviser’s press wing later confirmed the discussion in a statement.
During the meeting, the CEC and commissioners thanked the Chief Adviser for his continued support, as well as the law enforcement agencies and the armed forces for their cooperation during the preparation phase. The CEC noted that the public has already begun engaging in election-related activities, creating a strong electoral atmosphere across the country.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress, Chief Adviser Yunus assured that the interim government would continue to assist the Election Commission to ensure a free and fair vote. He said, “You are in the driver’s seat for this long-awaited election. We must reach our desired goal.”
He added that the caretaker government is committed to delivering a credible and orderly election, saying they aim to present the nation with one of the finest elections in early February.
The meeting was attended by Election Commissioners Abdur Rahman El Mashud, Tahmida Ahmed, Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar, Brig Gen (Retd) Abul Fazl Md Sanaullah, and EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed. National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman and the Chief Adviser’s Principal Secretary M Siraj Uddin Mia were also present.
