Independent Candidate Sharif Osman Hadi Shot After Repeated Threat Allegations
One month after publicly claiming he had been receiving continuous threats, Sharif Osman Hadi — spokesperson for Inqilab Manch and an independent contender for Dhaka-8 — was shot on Friday afternoon. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with bullet injuries, according to sources.
DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Faruk confirmed the incident, saying, “He was brought here with gunshot wounds and is currently being treated at the emergency unit.”
Authorities have not yet identified the exact location where the shooting took place. Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division, said they had been informed about the attack but were still trying to determine the incident site.
Hospital officials and local sources reported that the assault occurred around midday, though details about the attackers or the motive remain unclear.
This follows a series of alarming claims made by Hadi in November regarding threats to his life and family. On November 14, he posted on Facebook that he had been receiving death threats, warnings of arson at his home, and violent threats targeting his mother, sister and wife.
He wrote that within three hours, more than 30 calls and messages from foreign numbers had reached him, allegedly threatening him with surveillance, arson, sexual violence against his female family members, and murder.
Despite making these threats public, he has now faced a violent attack just ahead of the elections. Doctors have not yet provided detailed information about his condition.
