A fire broke out at Zaman Tower in Naya Paltan, originating from a restaurant on the sixth floor. Although the building had fire safety measures in place, none of them functioned properly, according to the Fire Service.
Speaking at the scene after the fire was brought under control on Wednesday morning, Dhaka Division’s Deputy Director of the Fire Service, Md. Saleh Uddin, stated that ventilation issues caused the flames and smoke to spread to the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th floors. Smoke also spread through the electrical duct lines and stairways.
Despite the risks, firefighters worked diligently, using TTL (Turntable Ladder) equipment to spray water from the outside before entering the building for further firefighting efforts.
Regarding the cause, Saleh Uddin confirmed that the fire originated in “Dhaka Restaurant” on the sixth floor of the building. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far, and two people were rescued alive from the 10th floor.
Authorities will investigate why fires keep recurring at Zaman Tower.
