Army Operation Nabs Excel Babu and Three Others

The Bangladesh Army has arrested four individuals, including the notorious Mohammadpur-based criminal Farid Ahmed Babu, widely known as “Excel Babu.” According to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the arrest took place on Tuesday, May 27, at the Buriganga Filling Station. While ISPR disclosed the identity of Excel Babu (aged 56), the names of the other detainees were not revealed.
The statement noted that Excel Babu is a well-known figure in Dhaka’s criminal underworld, facing over 15 cases filed across various police stations on charges including murder, illegal arms possession, abduction, extortion, and land grabbing. It also revealed that he operates multiple teenage gangs in the Mohammadpur Beribadh area and surrounding localities. Among the gangs linked to him are “Teenage Tornado,” “Dark Strikers,” “Red Volcano,” and a group led by a figure known as “Kobzikata Anwar” or “Shooter Anwar.” ISPR identified Excel Babu as the godfather of these youth gangs.
