Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Bangladesh over the next 24 hours, particularly in four major divisions, according to a warning issued by the Meteorological Department on Thursday morning. The bulletin, signed by meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Faruk, states that due to the active southwest monsoon, regions within Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions may experience heavy (44-88 mm) to very heavy (up to 188 mm) rainfall.
The warning also notes a heightened risk of landslides in the hilly areas of Chattogram Division due to intense rainfall.
In a separate alert issued by the same official, the department forecasts the possibility of storms by the evening across several districts, including Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Dhaka, Faridpur, Kushtia, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar. Gusty or squally winds from the southeast or east may blow at speeds of 45 to 60 km/h, accompanied by rain or thunderstorms.
As a precaution, inland river ports in 15 districts have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number 1.
