European Union allocates €2 million for victims of July unrest

The European Union (EU) has announced a €2 million aid project to support individuals affected by the violence during the July uprising in Bangladesh. The project, titled “The Pathways to Healing: A Survivor-Centered Approach to Address Violence and Human Rights Violations,” will be implemented through the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) with cooperation from the Bangladesh government. The funding will assist 8,000 people severely impacted by the violence, providing physical, mental, and social support.
The EU’s initiative aims to improve the health and well-being of the injured, including providing medical services, rehabilitation opportunities, mobility aids, and psychosocial support. The project also focuses on boosting economic stability and social cohesion by re-engaging affected individuals in productive activities. The assistance will be provided in the divisions of Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Rangpur, and Rajshahi, with implementation expected to continue until August 2026. The EU has committed to continuing this support as long as necessary, in collaboration with the Bangladeshi government and other stakeholders.
