The government of Bangladesh has approved the purchase of 11 million liters of refined rice bran oil for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), with a total cost of Tk 177.10 crore. The approval came during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Economic Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed on Thursday, April 17. The procurement will be done through a local open tender process under the proposal of the Ministry of Commerce. Each liter of oil will cost Tk 161. Two local firms have been selected as suppliers: Tamim Agro Industries Ltd. will supply 2 million liters, while Majumdar Bran Oil Mills Ltd. will deliver 9 million liters. Once the procurement is completed, the oil will be sold at subsidized rates to families holding TCB Family Cards. In the same meeting, the committee also approved imports of soybean oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), fertilizer, and rice.
