Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed a “severe response” to the deadly gun attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed at least 26 lives. During a government event in Bihar on Thursday, Modi and the audience observed a moment of silence for the victims.
In his speech, Modi said the entire nation is mourning and stands with the families of those who were killed or injured, adding that the government is doing everything possible to support their recovery. He emphasized that the attackers targeted not only innocent tourists but also dared to strike at the very soul of India. Victims came from diverse regions and spoke different languages, symbolizing the unity of the nation in grief.
Modi warned that those behind the attack—and those who conspired with them—would face unimaginable punishment. He declared that the willpower of 1.4 billion Indians would break the back of terrorism.
Switching to English midway through his speech, Modi addressed the international community, stating from Bihar’s soil that India would track down every terrorist and bring them to justice, including their sponsors. The attack has sparked nationwide anger, and demands for retaliation have grown, with Modi assuring that no perpetrator would be spared.
