Late Thursday night, Israel launched airstrikes targeting Syria’s defense and scientific centers, marking the latest attack since the ousting of long-time ruler Bashar al-Assad last month. According to The Times of Israel, the strikes focused on a defense facility and a scientific research center near Al-Safira, close to Aleppo.

Local sources reported five powerful strikes that caused the ground to shake, shattering doors and windows and lighting up the night sky. However, it remains unclear if there were any casualties. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have not commented on the attack.

Since Islamist-led rebels toppled Assad’s regime in early December, Israel has intensified its strikes on Syrian military assets, aiming to prevent weapons from falling into hostile hands. Targets have included chemical weapons facilities, missile systems, and critical military infrastructure.

Abu Mohammad al-Julani, now known as Ahmed al-Sharaa, the leader of the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), condemned the attacks, asserting that Israel’s airstrikes crossed a “red line” and threatened regional stability. He emphasized that Syria, exhausted by years of civil war, should focus on rebuilding and stabilizing under the new government, which he claimed would not allow Iran to regain its foothold in the country.
