Ukraine is prepared to sign a mineral and security agreement with the United States following former President Donald Trump’s announcement to halt military aid to the country. In response, President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed willingness to follow Washington’s approach toward ending the war with Russia.

On Tuesday, March 5, Zelensky addressed the issue in a lengthy post on social media platform X, marking his first public statement since the aid suspension announcement. He emphasized that Ukraine does not seek an indefinite war and is ready to engage in negotiations as soon as possible to establish lasting peace. He also stated Kyiv’s readiness to work under Trump’s leadership to achieve a stable resolution.

Zelensky expressed gratitude for U.S. support in Ukraine’s fight against Russia and praised Washington’s role in upholding Ukrainian sovereignty. However, he also proposed a deal where Kyiv would contribute 50% of its future natural resource revenue to a joint fund with Washington, in exchange for financial assistance to rebuild the war-torn nation.

The developments come after a heated exchange between Trump and Zelensky during a meeting at the White House last Friday. Although a planned agreement regarding Ukraine’s rare minerals was expected to be signed, the deal did not materialize.
