After winning the 2020 election, Donald Trump, the newly elected president of the United States, announced plans to eliminate the policy that grants citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil. In an interview with NBC, Trump revealed that he intends to use an executive order to repeal the so-called birthright citizenship provision. This provision is currently guaranteed by the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which states that any person born in the United States is a citizen, even if their parents were born in another country. Trump expressed his intent to change this rule, though immigration experts argue that such a move would violate the U.S. Constitution and could have serious legal consequences.

Additionally, Trump stated that on his first day in office, he would focus on pardoning individuals involved in the Capitol Hill riots of 2021. He also mentioned that he would work with Democrats to support undocumented immigrants who arrived in the U.S. as children.

Trump further emphasized that he would issue several executive orders on key issues such as immigration, energy, and the economy once he assumes office on January 20. This was the first time Trump gave a televised interview since his victory in the November elections.
