Christopher Wray, the Director of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has announced his resignation ahead of Donald Trump’s assumption of the presidency. According to a report by the BBC on Thursday, Wray made this decision amidst indications from Trump that he would be dismissed upon taking office.

The report states that Wray disclosed his decision during an internal FBI meeting on Wednesday. He explained that after weeks of deliberation, he has resolved to step down before Trump assumes the presidency next month.

Trump, in the meantime, has already nominated Kash Patel, a loyal ally, to replace Wray as the head of the FBI. If confirmed, Patel is expected to take over the position following Trump’s inauguration in January.
