Who Will Lead the Eid al-Fitr Prayer at Masjid al-Haram?

Sheikh Dr. Abdur Rahman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Sudais will lead the Eid al-Fitr prayer and deliver the sermon at the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, according to the mosque authorities. Eid al-Fitr will be observed on the 1st of Shawwal, depending on the sighting of the moon.
Sheikh Al-Sudais has been serving as the head of the Religious Affairs Presidency for Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi since 2012, a position equivalent to a minister in the Saudi government. Additionally, he has been fulfilling his role as an imam and khatib of Masjid al-Haram with great responsibility for 40 years.
Born in Riyadh in 1960, Sheikh Al-Sudais memorized the Quran at the age of 12. He completed his undergraduate studies at Riyadh University in 1983, earned his master’s degree from Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in 1987, and obtained a doctorate in Islamic Shariah from Umm Al-Qura University in 1995.
He began his academic career as an assistant professor at Riyadh University before joining Umm Al-Qura University in the same capacity. In 1984, at just 24 years old, he was appointed as an imam of the Kaaba.
