Bangladesh will no longer be allowed to export goods to a third country using Indian territory, according to a recent directive from India’s Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, as reported by the state-run PTI on April 8. The notification explicitly states that Bangladesh cannot use Indian land or airports for exporting products to other nations. Additionally, the Indian Express noted that Bangladesh-bound cargo trucks and containers will not be permitted to cross India for delivery to a third destination. This move, enacted by the Modi administration, could negatively affect Bangladesh’s trade relations with neighboring countries like Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar. India had originally granted Bangladesh this transit facility on June 29, 2020.
