China has announced new relaxations in its visa-free transit policy to attract more international tourists, according to CNN. The Chinese State Administration of Immigration revealed that the visa-free layover duration will now be extended to 140 hours (10 days), compared to the previous allowances of 72 hours (3 days) or 144 hours (6 days), depending on the traveler’s destination.

Under this policy, citizens of 54 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Brazil, and Canada, can enjoy up to 10 days of visa-free transit through China. This applies to travel through 60 open ports across 24 provinces, including popular tourist destinations such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Guangzhou. However, the policy is only applicable for transit passengers traveling from China to a third country or region.

Special administrative regions like Hong Kong and Macau already offer a 240-hour visa-free transit program, which counts these locations as third destinations. Entry into sensitive regions such as Tibet and Xinjiang will still require additional permits.
