Primary head teachers granted 2nd-class gazetted status

The Appellate Division has ruled that all head teachers of government primary schools across the country will be recognized as second-class gazetted officers and will receive salaries under the 10th grade. The verdict was delivered today, Thursday, by a bench led by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed.
The Appellate Division upheld the previous High Court ruling in this matter. Senior lawyer Barrister Salauddin Dolon represented the teachers in court.
Legal representatives stated that the new status and benefits would be effective from March 9, 2014.
On January 6, 2022, a full bench of the Appellate Division, led by the then Chief Justice, dismissed the government’s appeal against this decision. However, as the verdict was not implemented even after three months, head teachers filed a contempt of court case.
Subsequently, on June 27 of the same year, a dual bench of the High Court ordered the authorities to explain within a month why they should not face punitive measures for failing to execute the highest court’s ruling. In response, the ministry filed a civil review petition two days before the deadline.
After a final hearing, the full bench of the Appellate Division dismissed the civil review petition, clearing the way for the implementation of both the High Court and Appellate Division’s rulings.
