A Dhaka court has issued an order to freeze 31 bank accounts belonging to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, and their associates. The total amount in these accounts is approximately 394.6 million Bangladeshi Taka. This brings the total amount of frozen funds linked to the Sheikh Hasina family to over 1.49 billion Taka. The order was passed by Dhaka’s Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib on Tuesday, following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The ACC had requested the freeze on the grounds that the accused and their affiliates were attempting to transfer or misappropriate assets in these accounts, and immediate freezing was necessary for proper investigation. Previously, on March 11, the court had frozen 124 accounts, holding a total of over 655 million Taka, with one account showing a balance of just 0.68 USD. On the same day, the court also ordered the seizure of properties, including flats and land, belonging to Sheikh Hasina’s family members. These include a flat in Gulshan owned by her daughter Tulip Sidiq, with a deed value of approximately 4.3 million Taka, as well as properties in Dhanmondi, Gazipur, and Segunbagicha, among others.
