19 Top Officials of AL Govt Appear Before Tribunal

Twelve former ministers and state ministers of the fallen Awami League government, along with seven others, were brought before the International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday (April 20) in connection with a case over mass killings during the July-August crackdown on anti-discrimination student protests. The accused were transported to the tribunal in police vans around 10:30 a.m.

 

The hearing is being conducted by a three-member judicial panel led by Tribunal Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumder, alongside Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Justice Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

 

Earlier, on February 18, the tribunal had scheduled April 20 for their appearance in court following allegations of genocide committed during the 2023 student movement.

 

The accused include former ministers Anisul Huq, Faruk Khan, Dipu Moni, Abdur Razzak, Shajahan Khan, Golam Dastagir Gazi, Amir Hossain Amu, Kamrul Islam; Workers Party chief Rashed Khan Menon; JSD president Hasanul Haq Inu; former PM’s advisors Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury and Salman F Rahman; former state ministers Kamal Ahmed Majumder and Zunaid Ahmed Palak; former Appellate Division judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik; and former Home Secretary Jahangir Alam, among others.
