Former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor and senior vice-president of the district Awami League, Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy, has been ordered into custody following a court hearing in connection with the murder case of Minarul in Siddhirganj. The decision came from the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Mainuddin Kader on Friday.
According to Court Police Inspector Md. Kaiyum Khan, Dr. Ivy was presented before the court regarding her alleged involvement in the murder, and after the hearing, she was sent to jail. The next hearing has been scheduled for May 26.
She was arrested early Friday morning from her residence, Chunka Kutir, located in the Deobhog area of Narayanganj. However, she requested to leave in daylight, and around 5:30 a.m., she departed for the police station in a patrol vehicle.
The arrest operation began the previous night at around 11:00 p.m. when a police team entered her home. As news of her arrest spread, locals and party supporters gathered in protest, leading to rising tensions in the neighborhood. Awami League activists and Ivy’s supporters blocked access to her house from four roads using bamboo poles, handcarts, and vans, while mosque loudspeakers called on people to march to her residence.
