The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on all types of gatherings, rallies, processions, marches, and protests in several key locations near the court premises, including the Chief Justice’s residence, the Supreme Court area, and the entrances to the International Crimes Tribunal. The restriction will come into effect from Saturday, June 14, and will remain in place indefinitely.
This directive was announced on Thursday, June 12, through a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjad Ali. According to the notification, the decision has been taken under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance to maintain public order. The restricted areas include the Chief Justice’s official residence, Judges Complex, main gates of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, Mazar Gate, Jame Masjid Gate, entrances to International Crimes Tribunal 1 and 2, and the area in front of the Judicial Administration Training Institute.
The DMP also urged the public and all concerned parties to refrain from disrupting traffic through spontaneous road blockades under the banner of protests or other movements, emphasizing the importance of ensuring smooth transportation in the city.
